The UAE is at the forefront of the developments in AI robotics in a wide variety of industries, with the medical and cosmetic sectors enjoying a notable boom in innovation at the present time. That’s reflected not only in the value of the market itself and the revenue it is expected to generate for the economy, but also in the opinions of ordinary Emiratis.

The recent surge in interest for robotics in general and medical robotics in particular is reflected in a report published by Google Trends. According to the search engine behemoth, searches for “robotics” increased 80% in the last five years, while there was a 66.7% spike in searches for “medical robots” in the same time period.

Tomorrow’s medical treatments, today

The UAE has long been a pioneer in technological innovation and its deployment in the field of medicine brings a whole host of benefits. Not only can machines perform medical surgeries with greater precision and efficiency, but they can also contribute to cost savings and an overall beneficial impact on hospital budgets.

Because of these attractive advantages, more and more surgeons in the country have been incorporating robotic equipment and assistance into their surgical procedures. As a result, the market for medical robotics is expected to enjoy a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.2% between 2020 and 2025, reaching a net worth of $182 million at the close of that period.

Demand will encourage supply

Emirati citizens are becoming increasingly aware of these technologies, as well. Google Trends reported a whopping 80% increase in searches for “robotics” since 2017, with an especially prominent spike noted last year. Terms such as “advantages of robots” and “AI robots” also saw large increases (150% and 50%, respectively), indicating how receptive people are becoming to their use.

The fact that there was a two-thirds jump in searches for “medical robots” shows that people are increasingly interested in how AI can be leveraged in their healthcare treatments. As that demand continues to rise in the coming years, it’s inevitable that more and more companies offering a greater range of products and services will spring up to meet it, thus cementing the UAE’s position at the forefront of the sector.

Economic boons aplenty

The use of such technology is expected to have a revolutionary impact on public health by improving success rates for operations, as well as helping to prevent illness or disease from occurring in the first place. However, the effects will also be beneficial to the wider economy, since they should reduce hospital waiting times, bring down healthcare expenses and improve workplace productivity.

Indeed, taken as a whole, AI and robotics are projected to provide a wide-ranging array of benefits to the economy across a number of sectors. From transport and energy to manufacturing and hospitality, the widespread deployment of AI in the UAE will, according to a PwC report, contribute some $182 billion to the economy by 2035. As such, the country can be regarded not just as a leading light in medical robotics, but in innovative and advanced technology as a whole.
