The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is known for all kinds of innovation. Whether it’s new forms of transport, research into space exploration, or even just state-of-the-art skyscrapers, the Emirates are at the forefront of so many industries. And that’s highlighted during the UAE Innovation Month. So, what is it? Read on as we take a closer look.
The UAE Innovation Month runs from 1st-28th February in 2018, with the slogan ‘Innovation Starts with You’. It’s four weeks of activities and events aiming to engage the public in all the latest innovations. In total, there will be more than a thousand of these activities, which will be held in multiple locations through the month: • Abu Dhabi: February 1st-7th • Ras Al-Khaimah: February 8th-14th • Fujairah: February 8th-14th • Sharjah, Ajman and Umm AlQuwain: February 15th-21st • Dubai: February 22nd-28th
So, what kind of events can people expect over Innovation Month? In one of the world’s most exciting regions for technology, visitors can expect anything from smart clothing exhibitions to talks on space exploration.
One of the most renowned activities is the Hackathon. This asks young participants to use open data as a tool for innovation. With training on their first day, they’re given two days to analyse, innovate and produce unique solutions with the 2018 theme of ‘Data for Happiness’.
Elsewhere, Imagine Al Ain City asks visitors to share their thoughts on how Al Ain City will be in the future. And attention in the first week was dominated by the Innovator 2018 programme, which allows over a hundred innovators to showcase their projects.
There will also be a range of open days, such as the UAEU Science and Innovation Park open day. It will showcase its programmes, ongoing projects and the latest innovations, with researchers on hand to explain their work.
This isn’t the first set of UAE Innovation events, but it is the biggest yet. Similar events were held in previous years, known as UAE Innovation Week. And, following the success of 2015 and 2016 events, the event has been extended to a full month for 2018.
It’s now one of the world’s largest innovation festivals, combining government, private sector and individual participation. Find out more about the events on the official UAE Innovation Month website.Download PDF
