The Scientific Equipment and Furniture Association (SEFA) is pleased to announce that on November 9, 2022, its Board of Directors unanimously approved SEFA-12-2022 – the first ever Laboratory Grade Seating Standard. This document should be referenced when purchasing seating for use in laboratory environments. For a limited time, we are offering a complimentary download of the SEFA 12 document from the homepage of our website, www.sefalabs.com. In the Spring 2023 we will be releasing a new edition of SEFA’s Desk Reference which will include this standard. The Desk Reference may be pur-chased on the SEFA website. Independent third-party testing by facilities approved by SEFA will be used to certify that the seating meets the requirements of SEFA-12. Once that testing has been completed by our SEFA members, the specific seating models tested will be listed on the SEFA website. We expect that test results will be submitted to the SEFA offices starting in mid-2023 so that anyone purchasing or specifying seating for labs will have access to the companies and models of seating that have been successfully tested to this lab grade seating standard.
