In light of the overwhelmingly positive response to the 2017 SEFA Lab Design Symposium at ARABLAB, we are pleased to announce that plans are underway to continue this successful collaboration at ARABLAB 2018. The Showcase will encompass two full days of presentations featuring world re-known architects and planners and other recognized industry professionals.
At present, committed speakers include the following –
Josh Meyer – Managing Principal – Jacobs Consultancy – Josh Meyer is a recognized leader in the programming and design of research and instructional laboratories and has an unparalleled understanding of the industry. Mr. Meyer has had experience working with top research facilities such as Astra Zeneca, Biogen, GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis; Josh’s notable international projects include Astra Zeneca NCS (Cambridge, UK); RiMed Biomedical & Biotechnology Center (Sicily); and ARAMCO, (Saudi Arabia); Mr. Meyer is regularly invited to speak at industry events such as the Lab Design Conference and Tradeline Inc. He was a contributing writer on the committee on Cost of and Payment for Animal Research, for the National Research Council’s publication, Strategies that Influence Cost Containment in Animal Research Facilities.
T.H. Chang, AIA - Principal – T.H. Chang Consulting - Mr. Chang is an internationally recognized expert in lab planning and design with more than 30 years of diverse experience in the planning and design of science and technology facilities. In addition to numerous U.S. projects for Pharmaceutical and College & University Research Facilities, T.H. has been involved in several international projects, in the Middle East, Europe and Korea, including:
- Qatar Foundation, Research and Development Complex, Phase One;
- King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST);
Thuwal Saudi Arabia (2011 R & D Lab of the Year)
- Seoul National University, Samsung Cancer Research Center; Seoul, Korea

Punit Jain, AIA, LEED Fellow, VP Cannon Design - Punit serves on the National Board of the US Green Building Council (USGBC) – the originator of the LEED system, and widely recognized as one of the most influential institutions in the sustainable movement worldwide. With a Masters in Architecture and Construction Management, he serves as a visiting critic for the schools of architecture at Washington University and the University of Illinois at Champaign. Among Mr. Jain’s most recent accolades is 2017 R & D Lab of the Year - Special Recognition for Innovative Systems for the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR), Cambridge Campus, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
NIBR embarked on both a local and international initiative to achieve two main objectives:
- Add research capacity
- Increase collaboration
Punit will discuss this project and how the findings on the Cambridge project will help NIBR create the ideal future of lab design.
Brian Richard, AIA, NCARB, Executive VP – Kirksey Architecture – Brian has almost 20 years of experience as an architect and is licensed to practice in multiple states. His focus is on industrial projects, mission critical, laboratory R & D projects for Fortune 500 companies involved in or serving the Energy, Oil & Gas, Chemical and Technology Sectors. Brian is world re-known for his expertise in petro-chemical laboratories. Brian was the only Architect honored in the Houston Business Journal’s 2014 Who’s Who in the Energy Business.
Jorge Santos - Board of Directors Flores Valles, Middle East and USA – Jorge Santos has worked with Flores Valles for more than 10 years. He has been involved in several award winning projects including KAUST and most recently The Francis Crick Institute (2017 R & D Lab of the Year). Jorge will present the manufacturer’s perspective on these innovative award-winning projects.
Catherine will discuss current trends and innovations in the lab industry in China.
J. Sutton, JD CAE – Executive Director and General Counsel for the Scientific Equipment & Furniture Association (SEFA) – has been involved with SEFA since its formation in 1988. In his role as Executive Director he has positioned SEFA as a leading global industry association. will moderate a panel discussion, which will include several of the above mentioned architects and planners. They will discuss global industry trends as well as SEFA’s latest initiative, a Global Market Survey for Laboratory Furniture and Equipment Industry, to be completed in October of 2017.
At the Conclusion of the second day of presentations SEFA will host a “Meet the Speakers Reception” at the SEFA lounge located next to the SEFA Theatre.Download PDF
